Standard II
Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards S.

  • Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
  • Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
  • Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources.
  • Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.
Reflection

This standard focuses on designing and developing student learning experiences and environments that will help them to further their learning. This standard also makes sure teachers provide proper formative and summative assessments in order for the teachers to be able to gauge the student's learning progress. To access the linked projects, you can either click on the picture in the artifacts box on the left side or on the paragraph heading in the list below.

  • Rubistar. This project was to create a form of a grading/assessment tool via Rubistar. The rubric would be used for students to have a goal of where their project should be when it is finished. I believe this project met the standard by providing students with an assessment tool that could double as formative and summative assessment. The student will be provided the rubric so they can assess their project before it is turned in. Another way this project meets the standard is that the teacher can use the rubric as summative assessment to give a final grade for the project.

  • Easy Test Maker. The easy test maker tool can be used to cut down on the amount of time spent designing a test. This tool was used to make a test over a PowerPoint lecture. The test maker tool can be used to include a variety of different questions. I believe this tool met the standard by giving the students a form of formative assessment in that this is more of a quiz leading up to a test and a type of summative assessment in that it comes after learning a chapter on PowerPoint.

  • Trackstar. This tool combines different sources together in one location for easy access for students. Trackstar allows one to build a compilation of links to articles and other webpages all in one convenient location. Students can browse by topic and select different links to evaluate. I believe this project met this standard by giving the students a learning experience in an easy learning environment. Many times the students need to look up several sources in many different locations. Using trackstar a teacher can compile all of the sources in one location, and the students can access the track anywhere at any time. Another way I believe this standard has been met is by having students design a track as a part of a research project.

Future Learning Goals

These projects have taught me different ways to compile data together to make it easier on students to gain access to sources. In the future, I will also incorporate rubrics as a tool of both formative and summative assessment. Rubrics, I feel, cut down on frustration from the students by not knowing what to expect when it comes to grading. The test maker tool can also be a tool that cuts down on the amount of time it takes to create a test by removing the designing and formatting time. In the future, I will be using all of these materials to enhance my classroom.
