  • Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others.

  • Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.

  • Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community.
Reflection

This final standard makes sure that teachers are continuing to develop their knowledge and expertise. Two ways teachers can continue to grow are through research and practice. Investigating what technology is being used and how it is helping students is one way teachers can grow professionally. Also, sharing what techniques and devices are working in my classroom can help others in this area as well. To access the linked projects, you can either click on the picture in the artifacts box on the left side or on the paragraph heading in the list below.

  • Research. One of the projects that was the hardest, but most beneficial, was in the required research class. In this research class, we teamed up and learned about different types of research. I chose to investigate e-textbooks and the attitudes of students using the e-textbooks in the online classroom. I believe this project met the standard by my evaluating whether or not the incorporation of digital textbooks was being well received or not. Another way that this project can meet the standard is now that the research has been finished, the results can be shared with other educators.

  • Interview. Another project I found to be interesting and beneficial was having the opportunity to interview a person I did not know who worked in the Instructional Technology field. I believe this project met the standard by allowing me to find out more about what the interviewee does on the job, as well as helping me establish a future contact that I can gain insight from on how technology incorporation is being accomplished at their institution in the future.

  • Personal Website. This project was used to stretch my website creating capabilities. The website building itself is not what I believe met this standard, but I believe the content that is included on the website meets the standard. This website has a variety of uses. I believe this website met the standard by incorporating how my professional development has and will continue to grow as well as my philosophy on teaching. Having all of this information in one location that is all related to information about my professional life, can help me connect with other instructional technologists and share what has and hasn't worked in my area of expertise.

Future Learning Goals

Standard V is very challenging in the busyness of teaching life but is a very necessary aspect to any teacher. Without professional development, teachers would not stay up to date on their knowledge. In the future, I plan to continue researching the methods currently being used in my institution to see if they are being effective for student intellectual growth and development. I also plan on meeting with other instructional technologists to gain insight on what other institutions are doing to make sure their students are getting the best education possible. There are many ways professional development can be gained. I am excited to see what other opportunities come along to increase my knowledge in this and other fields.
